ENGL-586 Teaching Writing and the Basic Writer

This course explores the social, educational and linguistic foundations of writing instruction with special attention to the problems of the basic writer. Practicing and prospective teachers examine the theory, research and practice of writing instruction through a process of inquiry, workshops and work on their own writing. 3 hours lecture. Taught by James Nash, assisted by Robert Whitney in 1991. (Parascondola was then a student in that course.) “All GAs were expected to take Teaching Basic Writing while working in the Tutoring Center at Montclair State University in NJ.”
