English 531, Internship in the Writing Program, is a three credit course structured as a hybrid seminar and internship and has students read and discuss current scholarship in Writing Program Administration as well as participate in a hands-on internship in the WSU Writing Program. It is designed to introduce students to both theoretical and practical approaches to Writing Program Administration. This course is open to both Master’s and Doctoral Degree seeking students. Internship opportunities are focused in the three areas of WSU’s Writing Program: Writing Assessment, Writing Center and Writing in the Disciplines. In the past, the English Department’s Director of Composition has allowed students to do internship projects within the first-year composition program. Currently, the WSU Writing Program is expanding our services to include a Graduate and Professional Writing Center and are participating in a west coast consortium of colleges and universities for online writing tutoring. Students’ internships can occur within any of these areas.
